New York Mineral Rights

Economic benefit from New York mineral rights date back to November 1865 when Job Moses' Hall Farm Petroleum Company discovered oil in Carrollton Township of Cattaraugus County. The Moses No. 1 well was drilled to 1,165 feet with initial production of only seven barrels per day. Recently, the Marcellus Shale has become a natural gas play made possible by advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing. This shale play is located in the southern part of New York.
