Natural gas companies are going to help pay for Fayetteville Shale water wells to be tested for contamination.
“The Faulkner County Quorum Court approved a $20,000 contract Tuesday night with the U.S. Geological Survey to sample water wells in the Fayetteville Shale area.”
“The vote was unanimous, and the only discussion was about whether the three natural gas companies drilling in the area were likely to help pay for the water-sampling project.”
“The $20,000 contract will include sampling of 40-60 wells that are in closest proximity to natural gas wells and a monitoring of the level of the water table. The USGS will be working at the same time in Van Buren County.”
