NAPE will be in Houston, TX, from August 17 through the 19th. The conference and EXPO has become a playground for oil & gas leasing and land deals. If you want to know where the next hot shale play is going to be, the first peak will be at NAPE where every company from the super-majors to the mom and pop around the corner will have legal descriptions and their checkbooks at hand.
The expo is the perfect place to walk around and visit company booths to find out more about their operations and more specifically if they are buying are selling in your area. You’ll most certainly see prospects in the Eagle Ford Shale, Marcellus Shale, and Utica Shale to name a few. This is also when land speculators in plays such as the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale and Smackover Brown Dense will begin looking for partners.
This summer, the conference keynote speaker is Tom Ward of Sandridge Energy, who plans to speak on what it takes to make a “great play”. He is a co-founder of Chesapeake Energy and has been the CEO of Sandridge since 2006. There is a line up of industry executives and experts who will share their thoughts on the future of the industry.
For mineral owners and industry professionals, the greatest benefit is getting a personal feel on the pulse of the industry. When commodity prices are strong and there is perceived opportunity, you’ll see companies close booths in the first few hours as the quickly find JV partners or an outright buyer.
