Lewisville Council Rejects Moratorium on Gas Drilling Permits

The Lewisville City Council rejects a proposed moratorium on oil and gas drilling permits:

Lying on the far eastern edge of the Barnett Shale, Lewisville is a newcomer to natural gas drilling. Gas companies have recently begun contacting property owners about leasing their mineral rights. The city’s gas drilling ordinance is only about a year old. So far, only one permit has been issued for a drilling site. Following the lead of Flower Mound, Corinth and other cities, Lewisville considered suspending gas drilling permits this week to review current regulations. While the Lewisville City Council rejected the 120-day moratorium, the proposal highlights the ongoing debate about the effect of urban drilling in North Texas.
