Ohio Officials Ponder the Effects of Utica Shale Development

Ohio state and local officials are preparing for a potential boom from the Utica Shale. It’s good to get ahead of the curve because it will be hard to keep up once the rigs start rolling in.

Gov. John Kasich and members of his cabinet met with county officials from across the region Wednesday at the Zane State College/Ohio University-Zanesville Campus Center to discuss the impact of the Utica Shale play on local governments.

The meeting was a way for Kasich to help open up lines of communication between locals and his JobsOhio team, as energy development could play a key role in the state’s economic fortunes for years to come.

However, Coshocton Mayor Steve Mercer is worried municipalities such as his will be left out when it comes to realizing revenues from the energy development ventures.
